. . . calamari was gently battered and nicely textured. Perfect timing in the cooking is key, and this tasted as if the mission had been accomplished.
. . . inviting interior, tasty fare and friendly staff.
. . . linguini with white clam sauce was tasty, al dente pasta draped in velvety, oily cream spiked with tender, chewy bits of meat.
. . . an enormous, flaky-crusted mushroom stromboli, full of beef, was a good value
. . . spongy, light and sweet tiramisu was the perfect end to a heavy Italian meal. And rich chocolate cake was so thick you had to wrestle with a fork to get a delicious, overpoweringly chocolatety mouthful.
. . . service was pleasant, and the waiters were eager to please. It seems that each employee stopped by at some point to take care of something.

For authentic Neapolitan style pizza and reasonably priced Italian dishes and sandwiches served in a casual family atmosphere, try Bruno Ceka's Siena Pasta and Pizza.
Ceka, more famous for his namesake, Bruno's, in Valley Ranch, was inspired to create Siena in Coppell after he visited a pizzeria in Siena, Italy about three years ago. He recreated the décor of the place with paintings of Venice and consulted with his family to come up with some recipes to make Siena unique.
"We wanted to give Coppell residents something they'd been missing." Ceka said. "I made the menu myself... I didn't want to duplicate Bruno's--this has its own identity."
Since D Magazine named Siena the best neighborhood pizza place in Coppell, perhaps the best way to first sample the menu is with a pizza. The crust is thing and tender and always freshly made. "We make the dough on a daily basis," Ceka said.
For something light, try a delicious vegetable pizza, with mushrooms, black olives, peppers, onion, artichoke hearts, spinach and eggplant. Meat lovers might enjoy a heartier combination like Canadian bacon, ground beef, pepperoni and Italian sausage.
Like the dough, the sauce is made on the premises, with herbs like basil, oregano, fresh garlic and parsley. The cheese is always mozzarella--shipped in from New Jersey. Try the pizza with a Siena salad and any of the dressings, which are all made in house.
For something a little different than pizza, the calzone includes ricotta, mozzarella and sausage and the stromboli has pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and mozzarella. There are also six sandwiches to choose from, including the hot meatball sandwich and cold super sub with ham, salami and provolone cheese.
If you're in the mood for pasta, Siena serves 11 different dishes, including the popular Capellini Siena, which is angel hair pasta with tomatoes, artichoke hearts and capers in a garlic white wine sauce. Other pastas include classics like lasagna, tortellinis, manicotti, cannelloni, spaghetti and eggplant parmagiana
Siena's menu extends beyond pizza and pasta to include seven chicken dishes, such as chicken Rossini, which is topped with ham, spinach and provolone in a white wine sauce. If you like seafood, there is linguine with baby clams and calamari marinara. Sometimes they have other seafood--just ask.
Be sure to try the homemade garlic rolls with whatever you order; they are also made fresh every day.
Siena is often packed at lunch-time with diners from area businesses, and the focus at night is casual family dining.
"People can take the family and kids and come down here and enjoy the atmosphere." Ceka said. Kids usually go for the pizza and spaghetti, and there’s a nice selection of white and red wines by the bottle and glass, as well as six kinds of beer. And there's no need to dress up. "Put on some shorts and come on in," Ceka said, adding that everything on the menu is also available to go. Most to-go items are ready for pickup in 15 to 20 minutes, he said. Siena is a member of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce and recently catered the Chamber luncheon. Ceka said catering is available for up to 100 people and the restaurant can be reserved for parties such as schools, birthdays or company parties for up to 50 people.
